About the song
Direct Experience
“Wild and Free” is about recovering a direct relationship with life. In Kæthiar, freedom is experienced physically and immediately: running through trees, feeling wind and salt on the skin, listening to birds, looking at mountains, dancing and allowing the natural world to set the rhythm of the day. “No screens, no wires” does not reject technology; it expresses the same principle found elsewhere in the album: technology moves into the background so that life can return to the foreground.
“Wild” does not mean chaotic or uncivilized. It means natural, spontaneous and less constrained by the artificial pressures that often organize modern life. “Free” is the freedom to be fully present without attention being constantly claimed by screens, notifications, schedules or external systems. The line “We don't need a bell when the golden birds sing” captures this idea especially clearly: instead of a machine or institution announcing the passage of time, the natural world provides its own rhythm. “The sun is our king” extends the same image.
The references to Italy, France, Portugal, Spain and Germany are not a geographical route through Kæthiar. They are fragments of different human cultures entering the same experience through language, carrying ideas of love, life, joy, dance and simple happiness. None needs to dominate or disappear. They give concrete meaning to “the world is our home”: Kæthiar can be one shared world without becoming one single culture. Unity does not require uniformity.
The image of a “Cajun sky” adds something rooted, earthy, communal and alive to this vision. It is not a literal reference to Louisiana or an attempt to represent Cajun culture as a whole; it works as a quality within the song, reinforcing its attraction to things that feel elemental and directly lived.
At its core, “Wild and Free” is not about escaping civilization. It is about escaping everything that keeps us from experiencing life directly.
